Bookkeeping for Surrey businesses, kept up to date

Most owners we meet are not behind because they are disorganised. They are behind because bookkeeping is what gets dropped when the actual work gets busy.

Once it is three months behind it stops being a two-hour job and becomes a weekend.

The real cost is not the catch-up fee

It is that for three months you did not know your margin, you did not know whether you could afford the hire, and you found out the size of your VAT bill on the day it was due.

Books kept current are not an administrative nicety. They are the difference between running the business and reconstructing it afterwards.

What we do

Monthly reconciliation

Bank, card and payment accounts reconciled every month, not every quarter.

Sales and purchases

Recorded properly, with the missing paperwork chased rather than left in suspense.

VAT kept current

So the quarterly return is a formality rather than a scramble.

Things worth knowing

Debtor days drifting, one customer becoming too large a share of turnover, a margin quietly falling — flagged when we see them.

Figures you can read

A monthly set of numbers in plain English, not a trial balance and good luck.

Catch-up work

If you are behind, we start there. Without the lecture.

Software

We work in Xero, QuickBooks and FreeAgent. If you already use one, we use it — there is rarely a good reason to move you.

If you do not, we will tell you which fits how you actually work rather than which one we prefer. Worth knowing before you pay for anything: FreeAgent is free with some business bank accounts, which covers a lot of smaller companies at no cost at all.

Why this matters more from here

Digital record-keeping has stopped being optional. It already applies to every VAT-registered business whatever the turnover, and quarterly reporting for sole traders and landlords began in April 2026 for those with gross income over £50,000, reaching £30,000 in 2027 and £20,000 in 2028.

Books kept properly through the year make that a non-event. Books kept in a carrier bag turn it into four crises a year instead of one.

I offer a review, not a sales call — which may or may not lead anywhere. Most people come away with two or three things worth far more than twenty minutes.

What we cover
